Author: Rebecca Jenshak
Genre: New Adult Romance

Here’s a thing I learned a long time ago… guys and girls
don’t think about relationships the same way. Especially in college. So, when I
caught the girl sitting next to me on the plane reading a magazine article on
how to get out of the friend zone, I did something I never do – I got involved.
One look into her electric blue eyes and the darkness inside
of me faded.
Light and hope radiated from her like a neon sign.
Guys like me know how to get the girl, but we rarely get to
keep them.
Bianca
Girls like me fade into the background. Nice, quiet, smart
girls without the latest trendy clothes. My friendship with Court started as an
opportunity to get inside the male mind, but it turned into so much more.
His touch sent current coursing through my veins.
His kiss jolted my heart.
But here is something I learned a long time ago… you can’t
force people to love you back. No matter how much you long for them.

Flying coach was bullshit. The crying babies and the cramped
seats weren’t even the worst of it, although admittedly not a perk. The real
problem with sitting in the back of the plane was the comradery among the other
passengers. In first-class no one tried to chat about the weather or ask the
dreaded “Are you visiting or returning home?”. No, in first class we sat in our
large, reclining seats with plenty of leg room, cold drink on the tray table,
laptop open, and we minded our own damn business.
I didn’t sit in first class because of some ego trip where I
needed to flaunt my better than average salary around. I did it because I
preferred the silence. Also, I traveled so much it was almost always a free
upgrade. Not today.
At least I’d been lucky enough to snag an aisle seat. Unlike
the girl sitting in 8B. She didn’t look up as I shrugged off my suit jacket and
placed it with my carry-on bag in the overhead bin. She stared down at the
magazine in her hands, a pen gripped in her mouth.
Pink lips were wrapped around the blue pen and her eyebrows
were drawn together in deep concentration. The only indication I had that she
knew her seat neighbor had arrived was the way she shielded the magazine with
an elbow as I slid into my seat. Her stance reminded me of those smart kids who
strategically placed their arm around the edge of the desk so that no one could
cheat off their test answers.
Intrigued, I settled in and peeked over her arm and down at
the glossy pages only catching the headline: How to Get Out of the
Friend Zone and Land the Guy of Your Dreams
. My eyes trailed up to the
young woman so enthralled with such a ludicrous title and I studied her closer.
She was beautiful, but not in an in your face way. I
definitely couldn’t see her being banned to the friend zone. Her blonde hair
was piled up in a bun on the top of her head, face clear and tanned even in the
dreary March weather we’d been having. A faded, oversized floral dress was worn
over leggings and sparkly shoes completed a look that was a cross between a
preppy sorority girl and an artsy free spirit. She dressed in a way that told
me she didn’t know she was beautiful or if she knew, she just didn’t care
enough to conform to a style.
Judging by her reading material I was sold on the first
option.
As the other passengers filed into their seats, I found
myself intrigued and unable to focus on anything but 8B. I glanced over
politely, hoping she’d look up and make eye contact so I could get a better
look at her. No luck. She kept her focus on the garbage reading material in
front of her as the cabin doors were closed and the flight attendants prepared
for departure. When we’d reached twenty thousand feet and she still hadn’t so
much as side-eyed me, I gave up and pulled out my laptop to do some work.
I stared at the reports in front of me for five minutes, not
reading a word, before I gave up and closed the laptop with a snap. She jumped,
startled, and I turned to give her my attention. When her eyes finally found
mine, I inhaled sharply.
Bright blue eyes were outlined with a heavy hand on the
eyeliner or eyeshadow, whatever it was called, in a striking blue. I couldn’t
decide if was a fashion statement or a fashion disaster, but her eyes held mine
captive and my lips parted to speak, only no words came out. We stared for a
moment too long, neither saying a word, until she glanced down at her exposed
reading and flipped it shut.

I haven’t always been this bad…

Up until recently, I was the kind of girl who wore white cotton panties and bent at the knees rather than the waist.

Pomp and circumstance changed all that.

Jaxson Cassidy was my first taste of bad, and I liked it more than I should have. Just not in the way I was meant to. I couldn’t help myself though. I found him irresistible. That sexy grin, those skilled fingers, and that dirty, dirty mouth were a lethal combination.

I wasn’t supposed to want him. I wasn’t supposed to let him put his hands on me. I wasn’t supposed to do a lot of things…but I did.

He wants to keep me close.

I should push him away.

He says he can help me.

I’m not so sure.

For some reason, he thinks there’s good left in me.

What if he’s wrong?

Everyone knows a good boy can’t turn a bad girl around.

Everyone knows it’s always the other way.

Everyone…except him.

Portrait of a romantic, young couple

My Book Review:

Kim Karr is always a ‘Go To Author’ for me. I always enjoy her books and COME A LITTLE CLOSER joins this category! This book had me on the edge of my seat and utterly clueless as to what was going to happen next. Its a bit of a suspense romance with several deeper layers mixed in waiting to see what surprise Kim Karr is going to unfold next in the plot…

Synopsis

The most beautiful man I’ve ever seen is the one who can ruin everything…

The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.

And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.

I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful — pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full time job for me. It has to.

But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.

And it works–if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can’t afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.

Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo…

My Book Review

This is my first book to read by both authors, and I cannot wait to go dive into more of their books!
I loved Temporary with hot Aussie, Callen Walker, and hard working NYCer Grace Kerrington!

description

description

The authors give us a great foundation where the main characters are forced meeting under strenuous circumstances. It’s more of a slow burn romance where you can’t wait to see where their romantic journey will begin while dealing with some mega family drama on both fronts.

Callan Walker is the utmost playboy bachelor escaping reality and living the fancy life off his trust fund.

“There are days when I feel like pulling a Callan, when I want to run off and take a four-year vacation.”

description

Where poor Grace has been dealt some serious bad luck with guys and family.

“He was a good guy. Right up until the minute he left. But everyone does that to us. Grace and I repel men. Fathers. Boyfriends. We’re like Kryptonite.”

My favorite part of the story has to deal with ‘100 Days of Callen’ – all I can explain is that you just have to read the book to find out! Go pick up this book it has a Hot talking Aussie ready to give you his numbah and Grace determined to get herself a happy ending one day!

Sarah Mayberry

Since no one was banging down my door offering me a publishing contract for a gazillion dollars, I took a job in trade journalism writing about…wait for it…hardware. Nuts and bolts and electric drills. Six years of them, in fact. From journalism I moved into corporate communications for a major retailer, launching a new consumer magazine for them, and finally I wound up working in television on Australia’s longest running serial drama, Neighbours. This was a great job, and it taught me an enormous amount about character, story, structure and emotional story telling. It also helped me see where I’d been going wrong with my romance writing.

I went back to the drawing board. I wrote. I submitted. I waited. More than a year and a couple of revisions later, I got The Call. Much dancing with underwear on head and champagne swilling ensued.

I still write for TV – mostly Neighbours, but I also co-created a teen drama series called Karaoke High that screened in New Zealand, Canada, France and Australia. And I occasionally help out on other shows and consult on movie projects. Mostly, though, it’s just me in my PJs, hanging around with my laptop, writing about the stuff I love to read – romance – with my furry black dog, Max, by my side. Long may it continue!
