“Why do you keep coming to the café asking me out every week? You have to know that I’m never going to say yes.”

“That’s where you’re wrong,” I argue. “You want to say yes. I don’t know why you keep saying no, but I know I’m not wrong about the attraction between us being mutual.”

“And you’re what? Hoping to wear me down by buying coffee?”

“Winners want the ball.”

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me.”

“I don’t understand how that fits this scenario. Am I the ball?”

Reaching out, I let my fingertips graze her arm – elbow to wrist. Goosebumps meet my touch, but she doesn’t pull back. “It means that I’m willing to risk you turning me down every week because there’s always a chance you’ll say yes. I might fail ninety-nine times before I succeed, but I’m going to keep trying because I want you. You’re not the ball, Kitty, you’re the goal.”

She scrunches up her nose. “The goal? You can ‘score,’” —she air quotes the word— “with any girl you want. So, I’m not sure I buy it. If I’m just a goal…”

“Don’t twist my words. You’re not just anything.”

Our eyes lock and the air shifts. I don’t dare move even though I’m dying to taste her, to show her how good we can be together.

She lets out a long breath and shakes her head. “Can I have a drink of that?”

I hand over the bottle and watch as she tips it back and proceeds to grimace as the liquor meets her tongue. She hands it back with a cough. “Thanks.”

“Lo que tu quieras hermosa.”

Her eyes widen. “You speak Spanish?”

Damn. I haven’t pulled out the Spanish on her? In all my attempts to get her to go out with me, I’d forgotten Blair’s advice that tossing out my ability to speak Spanish was the ultimate panty dropper. Admittedly it doesn’t usually come to that. My handsome mug and the body that comes with the workouts and practices of being a college athlete do practically all the work for me.

“My parents wanted us to be able to communicate with our extended family in Mexico.”

She shifts so she’s sitting fully on the bed. “Did your parents grow up here or in Mexico?”

“Both. My father’s family moved here when he was a baby. My mother came over with her sister after high school.”

Whatever hesitation and block she’d been throwing up is down as she leans forward and asks the next question. “How’d they meet?”

I shake my head and click my tongue against the roof of my mouth twice. “Oh no, you’ve used up your seven questions. It’s my turn.”

She holds her hand out for the bottle.

I pass it over, watching mesmerized as she takes another small drink and hands it back. “I’m ready. Shoot.”

“Admit you’re attracted to me.”

“That’s not a question.”

“Fine. Are you attracted to me?”

Her face pinks. If I’d been doubting it, which I haven’t, I’d be certain now. Katrina is attracted to me, but I need to hear her say it. I need her to admit it to herself.

Release Blitz + My Book Review THE ASSIST by Rebecca Jenshak

Title: The Assist

Series: Smart Jocks #1

Author: Rebecca Jenshak
Genre: College Sports Romance
Release Date: November 5, 2018
Blurb
You know those stories where the smart girl tutors the dumb
jock? This isn’t it.
Blair
What’s the probability of insulting the one guy on campus I
need to help me pass statistics? If I knew, I wouldn’t be standing in front of
Wes Reynolds begging him to tutor me.
Basketball player, sexy, arrogant, always sleeping through
class… these are the things I knew about him. What I didn’t know is that he is
a seriously smart jock.
Wes
What’s the best way to get rid of the peppy and unrelenting
girl that keeps asking me to tutor her? If I knew, I wouldn’t be staring at her
tan legs and attempting to teach her statistics.
Sorority girl, fine as f**k, determined, ball buster… these
are the things I knew about her. What I didn’t know is that she is all the
things I didn’t realize I wanted or needed.
Or that one semester with her would change everything.

“Rise and shine,” Joel says as he nudges me. I’m not asleep.
I wish I were. My eyes are closed, hat pulled down, but there’s no sleep to be
had.
“She’s coming back for more.” The tone in his voice is
almost inspired.
I don’t have to look up to know who he’s talking about, but
I do anyway. She’s the most entertaining thing about this class. Open my eyes
and lift the hat, turn it backward so my view isn’t the least bit blocked.
Today she’s wearing little pink shorts that show off tan
legs, yellow tennis shoes that don’t match but somehow work, and a bracelet
with a little charm around her left ankle. It’s too small to make out, but I
stare anyway. Her brown hair is pulled up in a high ponytail, and she has a
megawatt smile plastered on her face. A big bow on top of her head is all she’d
need to look like head cheerleader of my high school fantasies.
“Wes, hey, can I talk to you for a second?”
“What’s up?”
I’m hella impressed by the balls on this chick. She’s put
her foot in her mouth, not once, but twice, and damn near insulted the entire
student athlete population, but she keeps coming back. She has determination
and grit. I admire that about her.
I also am not in the least bit offended by her assumption
that I’m a dumb jock. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised she came right
out and asked who my tutor was, but I know exactly what it looks like. I’ve fed
into the stereotype for years, doing nothing to make it seem otherwise. Well,
nothing but get straight A’s.
“I have sort of a favor.”
“What’s up?” I stand to walk with her out of the class.
“The tutor center was a bust. I know you said . . .” She
looks like she’s choosing her words carefully. “Do you have old study notes or
tests from previous semesters?”
“Still convinced I’m not capable of passing on my own, huh?”
“I’m sorry, really, no offense. I just want in on whatever
study materials you’re using. I can’t afford to fail another test. What’s your
secret?”
The secret? I’m fucking smart. Photographic memory smart and
statistics is my whole world, but I can’t resist messing with her.
“You know, saying no offense doesn’t make whatever you’re
saying less offensive. It just makes you feel better about saying something
offensive.”
Joel snickers behind me. I just can’t resist fucking with
her. She’s making it too easy.
“Sorry. I’m really so sorry. What about the other guys on
the team? Anyone have any awesome math tutors who aren’t available to us
non-jock students? I can pay.”
“Couldn’t say for sure, but I don’t think so. Most the guys
hold their own academically.” I lean in catching a whiff of her hair. It smells
good—like sugar cookies or candy canes or something sugary sweet that I want to
sink my teeth into. “Shocking, I know.”
Her shoulders slump in defeat, and I can tell she’s finally
accepted that I have no answers for her. At this point, I almost wish I knew of
someone to send her to. I don’t exactly travel in circles that clue me in on
secret study sessions and underground tutor societies.
“Thanks anyway.” She gives a little wave with the hand
clutched around the strap of her backpack.
Joel catches up to me, and we watch as she crosses the
campus toward the library. “Dude. That chick . . .”
“I know,” I say, and we continue to stare after her
completely awe stricken.

My Book Review

A Smart Jock + Sorority Girl + College Sports Romance = Give me ASAP!!!

I really enjoy this author’s writing and each book has this easy, happy, and steamy romance that I always devour! Jenshak always has creates swoon worthy characters and the perfect plot twists that keep me begging for more.

THE ASSIST being the first book in her Smart Jocks series has me wanting more, more, more! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Blair & Wes and their friends. The college shenanigans and speed bumps throughout the story kept me unable to put the book down. One part of the book really resonated with me in regards to Wes’ parents relationship and it has really made an impact on how I view my own parents’ relationship in a different light – so Thank You Rebecca!

I am a major fan of college sports romances and this book is in my MUST READ Recommendations.

Author: Rebecca Jenshak
Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Date: June 18, 2018

Court
Here’s a thing I learned a long time ago… guys and girls
don’t think about relationships the same way. Especially in college. So, when I
caught the girl sitting next to me on the plane reading a magazine article on
how to get out of the friend zone, I did something I never do – I got involved.
One look into her electric blue eyes and the darkness inside
of me faded.
Light and hope radiated from her like a neon sign.
Guys like me know how to get the girl, but we rarely get to
keep them.
Bianca
Girls like me fade into the background. Nice, quiet, smart
girls without the latest trendy clothes. My friendship with Court started as an
opportunity to get inside the male mind, but it turned into so much more.
His touch sent current coursing through my veins.
His kiss jolted my heart.
But here is something I learned a long time ago… you can’t
force people to love you back. No matter how much you long for them.

Flying coach was bullshit. The crying babies and the cramped
seats weren’t even the worst of it, although admittedly not a perk. The real
problem with sitting in the back of the plane was the comradery among the other
passengers. In first-class no one tried to chat about the weather or ask the
dreaded “Are you visiting or returning home?”. No, in first class we sat in our
large, reclining seats with plenty of leg room, cold drink on the tray table,
laptop open, and we minded our own damn business.
I didn’t sit in first class because of some ego trip where I
needed to flaunt my better than average salary around. I did it because I
preferred the silence. Also, I traveled so much it was almost always a free
upgrade. Not today.
At least I’d been lucky enough to snag an aisle seat. Unlike
the girl sitting in 8B. She didn’t look up as I shrugged off my suit jacket and
placed it with my carry-on bag in the overhead bin. She stared down at the
magazine in her hands, a pen gripped in her mouth.
Pink lips were wrapped around the blue pen and her eyebrows
were drawn together in deep concentration. The only indication I had that she
knew her seat neighbor had arrived was the way she shielded the magazine with
an elbow as I slid into my seat. Her stance reminded me of those smart kids who
strategically placed their arm around the edge of the desk so that no one could
cheat off their test answers.
Intrigued, I settled in and peeked over her arm and down at
the glossy pages only catching the headline: How to Get Out of the
Friend Zone and Land the Guy of Your Dreams
. My eyes trailed up to the
young woman so enthralled with such a ludicrous title and I studied her closer.
She was beautiful, but not in an in your face way. I
definitely couldn’t see her being banned to the friend zone. Her blonde hair
was piled up in a bun on the top of her head, face clear and tanned even in the
dreary March weather we’d been having. A faded, oversized floral dress was worn
over leggings and sparkly shoes completed a look that was a cross between a
preppy sorority girl and an artsy free spirit. She dressed in a way that told
me she didn’t know she was beautiful or if she knew, she just didn’t care
enough to conform to a style.
Judging by her reading material I was sold on the first
option.
As the other passengers filed into their seats, I found
myself intrigued and unable to focus on anything but 8B. I glanced over
politely, hoping she’d look up and make eye contact so I could get a better
look at her. No luck. She kept her focus on the garbage reading material in
front of her as the cabin doors were closed and the flight attendants prepared
for departure. When we’d reached twenty thousand feet and she still hadn’t so
much as side-eyed me, I gave up and pulled out my laptop to do some work.
I stared at the reports in front of me for five minutes, not
reading a word, before I gave up and closed the laptop with a snap. She jumped,
startled, and I turned to give her my attention. When her eyes finally found
mine, I inhaled sharply.
Bright blue eyes were outlined with a heavy hand on the
eyeliner or eyeshadow, whatever it was called, in a striking blue. I couldn’t
decide if was a fashion statement or a fashion disaster, but her eyes held mine
captive and my lips parted to speak, only no words came out. We stared for a
moment too long, neither saying a word, until she glanced down at her exposed
reading and flipped it shut.

Her eyes fluttered open, and she peered up at him, chin resting on his chest.
“Hi,” she said timidly.
Wrapping his arms around her, he rolled, pinning her underneath him. He wanted to wipe that unsure expression off her face. It threatened to destroy him.
“Good morning. Can we get a ruling on the field?”
Her brows furrowed, and the corners of her eyes crinkled. “What?”
“Last night, you called time out. A flag was thrown on the play, and I’m demanding time to be added back to the clock.”
She covered her face with both hands. “Oh my God. I’m so embarrassed.”
“I had no idea you were such a sports fan, but you threw that T like you had done it before. Volleyball? Football? Oh, please tell me you’re into that whole women’s lingerie football and all my dreams just came true.”
She dropped her hands and smiled up at him. “Lingerie Football League? Seriously? That’s what you think I do in my spare time?”
“A man can hope.” His dick twitched just picturing her in a pair of pads and… well, nothing else.
She rolled her eyes. “I played basketball. I was tall—coaches loved me.”
“Correction. You are tall.”
“So, into the technicalities this morning.”
“Sexual frustration.” He let his weight fall on her fully and ground his hardness against her. “It does crazy things to a man.”

DriveMeCrazy_eBook_HiRes

THREE words came to me after finishing this steamy H-O-T novella was I. WANT. MORE!

This quick read is a really good novella that I devoured in less than an hour. It has the perfect story/plot line that gives you enough of the story, but leaving you craving more of Grady & Naomi.

I just want to say this is a perfectly, well written short story! I read a lot of romance novellas and often times I find them cheesy or silly and this does not fall anywhere near that category. I can’t wait to see what else Rebecca Jenshak publishes!

Release Blitz & My Book Review SPAR by Rebecca Jenshak

Title: Spar
Author: Rebecca Jenshak
Series: Sweetbriar Lake
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Blue Tulip Publishing

Chris White can take his big, chiseled muscles and shove it… at least to the room down the hall. After her apartment building goes up in flames, Tori Calloway finds her-self shacked up with her brother’s best friend and the man she’s spent the better part of her twenties hating with every fiber of her being.
Chris knows how to throw a punch that’ll drop a man to his knees, but sparring with Tori is a whole different game. He was just a boy when he lost her the first time, and he’s not about to make the same mistake twice. Toe to toe with his fiercest competitor yet, he won’t go down without a fight.
**Spar is a sexy, contemporary romance STANDALONE. Each book in the Sweetbriar series will follow a different couple**
Read for FREE in Kindle Unlimited
Chris racked the barbell and glanced at the clock. It had been nearly eight hours since Tori had stormed — or rather, haughtily limped — upstairs. If she was determined to hide out, he wasn’t going to go banging down the door. This was his house, and he wasn’t tiptoeing around to spare her feelings. As he skipped up the dark stairway, he peeled off his sweaty shirt and shorts. A hot shower before bed sounded great.
No light peered out from the master bedroom. Tori was either sleeping or pretending to sleep. Either way it was a pretty clear signal she wanted to be left alone. Chris turned the door handle to the room he’d claimed for himself. Inside, he closed the door quietly and stepped out of his boxers. He fumbled for the light switch, cursing as he tripped over a pillow lying on the floor. What the hell?
“Oh my God, what are you doing!?” A female voice screamed as the light flicked on, revealing a shocked Tori in his bed, pulling the covers up to her chin like a child.
Chris froze, momentarily taken aback by the woman in his room. Recovering quickly, he let her stare at his naked form. That’s right, sweetheart. Look all you want. A faint pink crept up her neck and into her cheeks, confirming that she liked what she saw.
Tori covered her head with the blanket, screaming incoherently.
Chris headed to the bathroom, smiling at the sight of her hiding under the covers.
“This is my room. I had planned on taking a shower and going to bed alone, but this is a nice surprise. Care to join me in the shower, or do you want to wait for me here?”
Tori flung the covers off and hobble-stalked after him.
“Shower it is, then?” Chris said as his eyes wandered down to her bare legs and back up to her chest, which was covered with his gym shirt. The cut-off sleeves showed just a hint of side-boob, making it next to impossible to look away.
She crossed her arms as she apparently recognized him openly appreciating her choice of clothing. The weight of her arms pressed against her chest pushed her breasts up higher. He’d never be able to wear that shirt again without picturing her in it.
“So where am I supposed to sleep?” she demanded, not looking at him.
“You’re more than welcome to sleep in my bed, but I made up the master for you. End of the hallway,” he said as he stepped into the spray of warm water.
She either needed to get her ass in the shower now, or he was gonna need a hell of a lot more than water to keep his feelings and something else from springing up.

Thank you for Rebecca for taking the time to answer some questions for my blog today. Rebecca and I bonded over our love for Sex and the City. When she commented in a book Facebook group how everything could relate to Carrie Bradshaw I just knew we would get along!

Q. How did you come from body builder to contemporary romance writer?
Ha! I have degrees in English & Technical Writing and I’ve been a hobby writer all my life. I always wanted to write a book but never got very far into a story before I’d abandon it because writing is freaking hard! Then in the summer of 2016, I finally decided it was now or never and went for it.
Q. I know that you are an avid reader and audiobook listener. Which books are currently the top of your TBR?
I’m newly obsessed with Helena Hunting. I just finished her Pucked series and am starting in on Shacking Up next. I’m also really excited for Kristen Ashley’s The Hookup which releases later this month.
Q. What book will be next for you? Have you started writing a new book?
Next up is Mister Cowboy. It’s a CEO/cowboy book that I am SO excited about. It releases in March. I’ll also be releasing a short story in early 2018 called Drive Me Crazy. I’m writing Shackle now – it’s the third book in the Sweetbriar Lake series and it’s Claire’s book. I’m hoping to release that one in Spring/Summer 2018.
Q. What is your coffee/tea drink of choice?
I’m a coffee girl for sure!
Q. Do you have a certain thing that you do to celebrate your latest book release?
No, not really. Tonight I plan to kick my feet up with a margarita in hand & binge watch SATC – it’s my go-to for every occasion!
Thank you Rebecca for being a part of my Author Spotlight today, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Sweetbriar Lake series which you can find Book 1 – SWEAT & Book 2 – SPAR on my blog. And go enter the GIVEAWAY on my Instagram page for Spar’s Release!
