I am a big sucker for football romances and have read a ton of them and this goes in my faves pile! Locke starts this book off with plenty of captivating drama to lure you in and keep you guessing what is going to happen. I enjoyed the banter and attraction between Branch & Layla that kept me guessing of how this pairing was going to go down and of course the aftermath of their attraction with Layla’s older, protective brother which also happens to be best friends with Branch.

Locke gives Branch more character depth with his reasoning for being a player not only on the field, but with his personal relationships off the field.

“I play professional ball, Layla. Nothing in my life is predictable or even solid. My contract could get traded and I could be on a plane across the country on a whim. That’s part of the reason why I haven’t wanted to start a family or settle down.”

I LOVED the whole cast of characters and especially Poppy’s analogies to football positions!!!! I look at football player’s egos much different now.

“Quarterbacks don’t take hits well and if they don’t perform, they’re traded for something bigger, Plus, they pass the ball. They don’t hold on to it for too long. It’s a clear sign of commitment issues.”
