They say your first kiss should be earned.

Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky.

They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred.

Mine were broken before we left church.

They say your heart only beats for one man.

Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end.

I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit.

Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage.

They say that all great love stories have a happy ending.

I, Francesca Rossi, found myself erasing and rewriting mine until the very last chapter.

One kiss.

Two men.

Three lives.

Entwined together.

And somewhere between these two men, I had to find my forever.

Excerpt
“Are you sure you’re on my card?” I turned to the man with a polite yet distant smile. I was still disoriented from the exchange with Angelo when the stranger pulled me against his hard body and pressed a possessive hand lower than socially acceptable on my back, a second from groping my butt.

“Answer me,” I hissed.

“My bid on your card was the highest,” he replied dryly.

“The bids are undisclosed. You don’t know how much other people have paid,” I kept my lips pursed to keep myself from yelling.

“I know it’s nowhere near the realm of what this dance is worth.”

Un-freaking-believable.

We began to waltz around the room as other couples were not only spinning and mingling but also stealing envious glances at us. Naked, raw ogles that told me that whomever the blonde he’d come to the masquerade with was, she wasn’t his wife. And that I might have been all the rage in The Outfit, but the rude man was in high demand, too.

I was stiff and cold in his arms, but he didn’t seem to notice—or mind. He knew how to waltz better than most men, but he was technical, and lacked warmth and Angelo’s playfulness.

“Nemesis.” He took me by surprise, his rapacious gaze stripping me bare. “Distributing glee and dealing misery. Seems at odds with the submissive girl who entertained Bishop and his horsey wife at the table.”

I choked on my own saliva. Did he just call the governor’s wife horsey? And me submissive? I looked away, ignoring the addictive scent of his cologne, and the way his marble body felt against mine.

“Nemesis is my spirit animal. She was the one to lure Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection and died of vanity. Pride is a terrible illness.” I flashed him a taunting smirk.

“Some of us could use catching it.” He bared his straight white teeth.

“Arrogance is a disease. Compassion is the cure. Most gods didn’t like Nemesis, but that’s because she had a backbone.”

“Do you?” He arched a dark eyebrow.

“Do I…?” I blinked, the courteous grin on my face crumpling. He was even ruder when we were alone.

“Have a backbone,” he provided. He stared at me so boldly and intimately, it felt like he breathed fire into my soul. I wanted to step out of his touch and jump into a pool full of ice.

“Of course, I do,” I responded, my spine stiffening. “What’s with the manners? Were you raised by wild coyotes?”

“Give me an example,” he said, ignoring my quip. I was beginning to draw away from him, but he jerked me back into his arms. The glitzy ballroom distorted into a backdrop, and even though I was starting to notice that the man behind the demi-mask was unusually beautiful, the ugliness of his behavior was the only thing that stood out.

I am a warrior and a lady…and a sane person who can deal with this horrid man.

“I really like Angelo Bandini.” I dropped my voice, slicing my gaze from his eyes and toward the table where Angelo’s family had been seated. My father was sitting a few seats away, staring at us coldly, surrounded by Made Men who chatted away.

“And see, in my family, we have a tradition dating back ten generations. Prior to her wedding, a Rossi bride is to open a wooden chest—carved and made by a witch who lived in my ancestors’ Italian village—and read three notes written to her by the last Rossi girl to marry. It’s kind of a good luck charm mixed with a talisman and a bit of fortunetelling. I stole the chest tonight and opened one of the notes, all so I could rush fate. It said that tonight I was going to be kissed by the love of my life, and well…” I drew my lower lip into my mouth and sucked it, peering under my eyelashes at Angelo’s empty seat. The man stared at me stoically, as though I was a foreign film he couldn’t understand. “I’m going to kiss him tonight.”

“That’s your backbone?”

“When I have an ambition, I go for it.”

A conceited frown crinkled his mask, as if to say I was a complete and utter moron. I looked him straight in the eye. My father taught me that the best way to deal with men like him was to confront, not run. Because, this man? He’d chase.

Excerpt:

“Where are we going?” She turns a curious eye toward me, tilting her head to the side. I glance over my shoulder as I guide her a few steps away and around a corner.

“Trust me?” She nods, and I point to the closed door in front of us.

“The cloakroom?” she asks with a teasing smile.

“Shush,” I whisper, twisting the handle to see if it’s locked. It moves in my hand. I’m in luck.

I open the door wide enough for us both to slide inside, then leave it cracked a few inches so a sliver of light streams in. Aside from a few empty hangers on a rod, the room is bare.

“What are we doing in here?” Tessa asks, but her eager eyes give her away. She wants me as much as I want her.

“I need something from you before we join the others.” I lean forward and speak into her ear.

“What’s that?” she breathes.

“This.” I place my hands on her back. She shivers at my touch, following with a sweet sigh. My fingers trail over her velvety skin, lingering at the simple hook connecting her lone strap. If only we had more time. “Your skin’s so smooth and silky.”

I bend down and kiss her lips, and she returns it with a passion matching mine. Tessa links her fingers behind my neck, and we are lost in each other. Minutes later, when we both need to draw in a breath, I move my lips down her neck and over the exposed curves of her breasts.

“I want to taste all of you,” I say against her skin, and feel her pulse racing like mine.

Dropping to my knee, I bring my hands to the back of her toned legs, and trace the delicate skin behind her knees. Her muscles flex and release in anticipation. With a feather like touch, I inch up her thighs, finding the lacy edge of her panties. “Has anyone touched you here?”

“No one,” she blows out between labored breaths. She gazes down at me with eyes full of desire, but there’s a tentativeness in them I can’t ignore. My touches, and the promise of more between us, are new and unchartered territory for her.

I rise to my full height, changing our position. Looking down at her, I wonder if this beautiful woman is ready for what I want to do to her and what we can be together. I have to ease her into things, build her confidence. It should be her decision to freely give into the passion and trust me. Let me make her mine. I won’t push her from the base of the mountain to the peak in one night.

“I want to be the first. Are you okay with that?” I run my fingers over the curve of her shoulders.

“Yes, please,” she begs.

My Book Review

“Apparently she is Cinderella, at least to her family. And that makes me the bad wolf in this “Southern girl comes to the Big Apple” fairy tale.”

description

Bossy Nights is a sweet, cute romance that can be read quite quickly! The main characters: Tessa & Barclay are just the cutest that you fall for them and their accelerated relationship. There is an age gap, and it just has you falling for Barclay even more!

“Have you ever considered becoming a nun?”

Tessa has her annoying V-card to get rid of when she lands in NYC after graduating college in a small town. I loved this part of the plot as to her reasons why she has kept this status…

Court
Here’s a thing I learned a long time ago… guys and girls
don’t think about relationships the same way. Especially in college. So, when I
caught the girl sitting next to me on the plane reading a magazine article on
how to get out of the friend zone, I did something I never do – I got involved.
One look into her electric blue eyes and the darkness inside
of me faded.
Light and hope radiated from her like a neon sign.
Guys like me know how to get the girl, but we rarely get to
keep them.
Bianca
Girls like me fade into the background. Nice, quiet, smart
girls without the latest trendy clothes. My friendship with Court started as an
opportunity to get inside the male mind, but it turned into so much more.
His touch sent current coursing through my veins.
His kiss jolted my heart.

Excerpt
Flying coach was bullshit. The crying babies and the cramped
seats weren’t even the worst of it, although admittedly not a perk. The real
problem with sitting in the back of the plane was the comradery among the other
passengers. In first-class no one tried to chat about the weather or ask the
dreaded “Are you visiting or returning home?”. No, in first class we sat in our
large, reclining seats with plenty of leg room, cold drink on the tray table,
laptop open, and we minded our own damn business.
I didn’t sit in first class because of some ego trip where I
needed to flaunt my better than average salary around. I did it because I
preferred the silence. Also, I traveled so much it was almost always a free
upgrade. Not today.
At least I’d been lucky enough to snag an aisle seat. Unlike
the girl sitting in 8B. She didn’t look up as I shrugged off my suit jacket and
placed it with my carry-on bag in the overhead bin. She stared down at the
magazine in her hands, a pen gripped in her mouth.
Pink lips were wrapped around the blue pen and her eyebrows
were drawn together in deep concentration. The only indication I had that she
knew her seat neighbor had arrived was the way she shielded the magazine with
an elbow as I slid into my seat. Her stance reminded me of those smart kids who
strategically placed their arm around the edge of the desk so that no one could
cheat off their test answers.
Intrigued, I settled in and peeked over her arm and down at
the glossy pages only catching the headline: How to Get Out of the
Friend Zone and Land the Guy of Your Dreams
. My eyes trailed up to the
young woman so enthralled with such a ludicrous title and I studied her closer.
She was beautiful, but not in an in your face way. I
definitely couldn’t see her being banned to the friend zone. Her blonde hair
was piled up in a bun on the top of her head, face clear and tanned even in the
dreary March weather we’d been having. A faded, oversized floral dress was worn
over leggings and sparkly shoes completed a look that was a cross between a
preppy sorority girl and an artsy free spirit. She dressed in a way that told
me she didn’t know she was beautiful or if she knew, she just didn’t care
enough to conform to a style.
Judging by her reading material I was sold on the first
option.
As the other passengers filed into their seats, I found
myself intrigued and unable to focus on anything but 8B. I glanced over
politely, hoping she’d look up and make eye contact so I could get a better
look at her. No luck. She kept her focus on the garbage reading material in
front of her as the cabin doors were closed and the flight attendants prepared
for departure. When we’d reached twenty thousand feet and she still hadn’t so
much as side-eyed me, I gave up and pulled out my laptop to do some work.
I stared at the reports in front of me for five minutes, not
reading a word, before I gave up and closed the laptop with a snap. She jumped,
startled, and I turned to give her my attention. When her eyes finally found
mine, I inhaled sharply.
Bright blue eyes were outlined with a heavy hand on the
eyeliner or eyeshadow, whatever it was called, in a striking blue. I couldn’t
decide if was a fashion statement or a fashion disaster, but her eyes held mine
captive and my lips parted to speak, only no words came out. We stared for a
moment too long, neither saying a word, until she glanced down at her exposed
reading and flipped it shut.
